'Smokimap' is a mobile app for locating public or private smoking areas authorized in Japan. It helps travelers and locals quickly find the best place to smoke without risking fines or causing discomfort.
Why was this app created?
During my Working Holiday in Japan, I noticed that both tourists and even Japanese people could find themselves in awkward situations. As a tour guide and someone who lived in Japan, I witnessed these incidents repeatedly. My goal is to provide a simple solution for both smokers and non-smokers, to respect Japanese regulations.
What are the differences between public and private smoking areas?
Public areas are accessible to everyone, such as parks or public squares. Private areas are reserved for specific establishments, such as restaurants, bars, karaoke venues, etc.
How does the app locate smoking areas?

How can I report a new spot or incorrect information?
Use the 'Add a new place' function in the app to suggest a new location or click on an existing location and select 'Report'.
On which platforms is the app available?
Available on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
What languages are available?
Currently available in French, English, and Japanese. More languages will be added later.
What about my data privacy?
GDPR compliant. No personal data stored except Premium user email. Location is used temporarily only.
